You might wonder what in the world this has to do with medical humor… but it’s too darn cute not to include.

Besides, if you think about it… toilets, kids, family meetings, death… all medically related… 

I just posted a new Chart Farts® video on YouTube…

It has all of the usual (hilarious) samples from the Chart Farts® collection… but this one has a twist at the end that will cause a small subset of you will wet yourself when you see it. The rest of you will just wonder… WTF? (hint: you have to be older than 30 to get it… or have some weird fascination with watching re-runs of old, 1980s sitcoms)

In any case, the Joint Commission won’t like it…

But hey, I laugh at doctor jokes… nurses laugh at nurse jokes…

 Medical humor comes in all forms. And we love most of it… but the funniest of all medical humor seems to be that stuff that is real, and at the same time embarrassing, yet harmless. Chart Farts® are just that…

Medical malapropisms that were really put on charts or said by health practitioners or patients… And with the exception of an occasional reader becoming incontinent, no one was hurt by the error.

Just when you thought you heard of everything… GiggleMed goes and puts a Throckmorton app out there for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

For those of you in the dark on Throckmorton’s Sign, it is a somewhat fictitious radiographic sign that clinically astute radiologists use in determining the highest yield portion of a radiology image to focus on.

Here’s how it works… You’re reading an Xray or a CT or something… so far it’s pretty unremarkable. But then you notice… the male organ (yes, the one of spam filter fame) is pointing toward one side. Logically then, if something is pointing there… well, you look over there.

Throckmorton’s Sign says that whichever side the Spam Filter Organ is pointing towards, that’s the side of the lesion.

Well, thinking that’s a little unfair, GiggleMed decided to even the playing field and make this important radiographic sign available for use in all patients… male and female… and in all studies… whether the bottom half of the body is imaged or no...

I don’t eat there often, but this most recent trip to McDonalds with my family was not without humor. My wife came prepared with green leafy vegetables and tomatoes… and me?… well I came prepared with a Flip Mino HD video camera and some pens.

Tony Below-Knee is a GiggleMed character whose name is derived from the GiggleMed authors’ favorite medical chart malapropism (chart fart)… “Baloney amputation”. Tony Below-Knee is a puppet made from a sock. His name is “Tony”, thus the voice.

Medical malapropisms are bloopers of medical jargon. We call them Chart Farts ® – a term GiggleMed coined to capture the way a malapropism can punctuate a serious moment in healthcare. When doctors or nurses are taking a history, when reading through the medical record, and even when professionals are discussing their work. We all make mistakes, but sometimes (even in normally serious times) these medical errors can be quite funny. We have recorded thousands of them. All real stuff, all real charts.

No one (at least no one I know) looks forward to having a colonoscopy. But I’ll tell you what… this one is hilarious. Lou Rawls and Damon Wayans in a funny video classic. Combine a heavy, rough-around-the-edges nurse, a disco ball, and a colonoscope. Just the look on Damon Wayans’ face is priceless.

Patients already say some funny things during conscious sedation, what if Lou Rawls was putting you under like this? Imagine the things you’d say.
